Hawaii is composed of a number of islands including The Big Island, Kauai, Oahu, Lanai, Molokai and Maui.

The Big Island is the largest island and the least populated. It is also home to Kilauea, the most active volcano in the world. The island itself contains eleven of the fourteen known climatic zones in the world, from desert lavascapes, tropical rain forest, beaches and snow on the peaks of the 13,000 foot volcanoes. Kona is on the dry side of the island and tends to be the most popular destination, whilst Hilo, the county seat, is on the wet side.

Kauai, known as the Garden Isle with pink sand beaches and tropical rain forests. It's highest point is Kawaikiki Peak at 5,243 feet above sea level. Kauai Airport is in Lihue, the county seat.

Lanai, known as “The Pineapple Island” and “Private Island” is the place to get away from everyone. The only major town is Lanai City. The highest point is Lanaihale at 3,366 feet above sea level.

Maui is known as “The Valley Island” and includes Lahaina, the whaling port and gateway to whale watching. The highest point is Haleakala at 10,023 feet above sea level. Popular tourist spots include Hana, Kaanapali Beach, Hookipa (home to the world's best wind surfing) and Haleakala Crater (known as the House of the Sun).

Molokai, known as “THe Friendly Island” was once home to Father Damien's leper colony. With the highest point being Kamakou Peak at 4,961 feet above sea level, there are deserted beaches and majestic cliffs.

Oahu is the main island of Hawaii. Found here are the popular and famous Don Ho, Honolulu, Pearl Harbor and Waikiki. This island was known to the ancient Hawaiians as “The Gathering Place”. Home to the state capitol Honolulu, it's highest point is Kaala Peak at 4,003 feet above sea-level.
