Welcome to United States of America (USA) travel and accommodation for
North Carolina.
Located on the east side of America, North Carolina is bordered by South
Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia and the Atlantic Ocean. The name itself
is derived from the Latin ‘Carolus’, in honor of King Charles I of England. Also
referred to as the ‘Tar Heel State’, the name having probably evolved from the
colonial period when the chief export was tar, pitch and turpentine. The
region was once home to 50 foot-long alligators and huge megladon sharks that
roamed the waters, some millions of years ago. Today, you can enjoy the many
waterways that include over 200 waterfalls, numerous lakes of which some 1,500
are over ten acres, and over 30,000 miles of fresh water streams. The New River
running through Ashe County is the oldest river in the country and second oldest
in the world.
